Thinking about how to include your pet into your wedding? That’s the cutest idea! I love when couples interact with their dogs, cats or other pets, during their session.
If you’re thinking about doing so, you’ll need to make some preparations.
At Home Sessions
For a session at home, there’s not much you’ll need to do to prepare. Simply have your pet groomed before the session and keep some treats nearby to reward them for being an adorable addition to the portraits.
For sessions that don’t take place within your home, you’ll need to bring someone with you to take care of your pet while you and your fiancé are having the pet-free images taken. Believe me when I say that tying a leash to a tree doesn’t work as the dog’s crying or barking will distray you instantly.
Pets in Weddings
For those couples who can’t imagine their wedding day without their beloved pet present, my advice is to go for it! It may not be something too common, but the simple fact of considering it, denotes that it should not be something so unthinkable. Surely you will not regret it!
I have photographed weddings in which pets have made their appearance at some point in the reception as a surprise to the newlyweds, creating a very emotional and cute moment for everybody. On other occasions, they have witnessed the entire ceremony or have even had roles of great importance such as carrying the rings in ring holders specially designed for them, quite a responsibility!
In either case, whether it is something planned by the couple themselves or by someone close to you, logistics must be taken into account in advance when it comes to caring for the animal. We know that a wedding day has many hours ahead in different scenarios and for them it can be too much.
There are companies dedicated to animal care that will make them feel at home during the necessary hours. You can check with your wedding planning service or maybe do a Google search.
There are times when the physical presence of your beloved pets will not be possible, due to limitations of the venue (such as churches, hotels, etc.) or simply because you do not consider it appropriate. In these cases, you have the possibility of booking an after-wedding session, in a totally pet-friendly environment. You won’t miss the opportunity to have them appear in your portraits.
In one way or another, there are many ways to celebrate your beloved animals and to include your pet into your wedding or photoshoot. They are an important part of your family and will undoubtedly accompany you in your fondest memories.
